June Update, Mayor Interviews, Deep Geothermal
To check on viability of co-ordinating housing, local organization, and economic policies at the county level,
I've
been running an interview series with the County Council, and have so
far interviewed the Mayor of Georgian Bluffs Sue Carleton
As well the Deputy Mayor of Owen Sound Scott Greig
I
think the interviews went well and am seeing good willingness and
co-operation, but you can decide for yourself and see the videos.
Also
in terms of energy transition and depleting oil reserves I've met with
Engineer Dan Gowin and retired air force general Stan Osserman regarding
it, and they explained the history of municipal energy starting with
Town Gas, and how the future may be coming back to it, especially paired
with Deep Geothermal
I've
since then also connected with leading Deep Geothermal researchers
around the globe including in Finland, US, Germany and Canada to see how
we can move forward. The most promising currently being Eavor Loops,
first pioneered in Alberta, and currently doing a full implementation in
Germany. If we can get the same technology to update the Finnish Deep
Heat project, then we'll be able to do it in Owen Sound as well,
offering us both local electricity and district heating, which can heat
our homes in winter, and-or have hot springs, and greenhouses.
Also
have met with leading international scientists from UK and France on
the state of the oil reserves, where they explain that the official
public information of so called “proven reserves” is a massive
over-estimate, roughly twice what we probably have in reality.
Simon
Michaux also showed us his full transition plan analysis for various
scenarios in Hawaii, and my personal recommendation of permaculture food
forest communities, turned out to be one of the most viable ones.
Also
Dan and Stan reviewed the latest news from oil price.com and found that
companies are saying that the global peak may be right now rather than
some future period, and we may be seeing declines as soon as this year.
Other
than that I've also been growing many edible tree and plant seedlings
and selling them online and at Keady Market to try to improve food
security in our region and Canada in general.
