young Republicans were eager to start the post-Trump era

No no no no no. You fuckers don’t get to just skip away from this mess and have a redo. You need to own this disaster and be pulled into all the legal ramifications for all the catastrophic damage you’ve facilitated.

I mean, unless they’re made to be held accountable then this is exactly what they’ll do. It’s what they did with Bush Jr.

The next Democrat President will go and say “In order for this country to heal. I am going to pardon all of President Lumpty Trumpty administration from all previous crimes.”

The message being if you are part of the political class, we will protect each other.

If they are still Republican, it’s the same shit. Sure, maybe the shine is off of Taco, personally, but if they are still Republicans, it’s the same shitty anti-American values at their core.

    Always has been.

Yep. Even in the face of some of the younger conservatives openly and brazenly seemingly embracing even worse shit, I keep seeing this stupid intragenerational bullshit narrative.

The narrative is that somehow if we only had only younger politicians, and certainly no boomers, everything would be magical, because it’s somehow impossible that anyone boomer age could possibly understand anything that younger generations are dealing with. 🙄

It’s weird that both of these phenomenon seem to have risen around the same time. The real credible threat of fascism on the rise - along with TrumpYouth - comes at the same time that there is this constant drumbeat against older politicians and older people in general?

        Hmmmm…

Believe it or not, the Republican Party began its journey to where it is today as a progressive party.

In 1854, the Republican Party emerged to combat the expansion of slavery into western territories after the passing of the Kansas–Nebraska Act. The early Republican Party consisted of northern Protestants, factory workers, professionals, businessmen, prosperous farmers, and after the Civil War also of black former slaves.

It has changed a lot over the years, tiny steps, usually occuring after passage of various civil rights acts. If you want to know more I suggest you read about Senator Strom Thurmond, The Dixiecrat Revolt, and Reconstruction

Too bad the creation of the GOP manifested George Washington’s greatest fear for America… that it would devolve into a 2 party state.

Washington was totally still alive for the creation of the Federalist and Democratic-Republican parties.

Historian Richard Hofstadter wrote that the Founders “did not believe in parties as such, scorned those that they were conscious of as historical models, had a keen terror of party spirit and its evil consequences”, but “almost as soon as their national government was in operation, [they] found it necessary to establish parties.”

My vibe is that many of them are not done with the fascism, the theocracy, the racism, and the violence, they’re just done with dottering old Trump and the podcaster-Cabinet being pathetic losers.

      Exactly.

They’re tired of Trump because he’s old and his schtick is getting repetitive. They’ll hop on the next bigot train as soon as it pulls into the station.

    Yeah.

It’s about time for conservatives to move on to the next felon rapist pedophile racist scumbag dipshit.

Anyone that thinks conservatives learn anything from their poor decisions is either pretty young or hasn’t been paying attention.

The next bigot will capture their attention and they’ll choose to place their bigotry over their own welfare and the welfare of their nation…again.

I’m gonna be honest here, it’s gonna take a lot for me to feel like Republicans deserve a second chance. Like, every registered Republican gets to pay reparations — for starters. And I don’t mean to me specifically, I actually just mean straight up reparations to black people. We can talk about reparations for everyone else in the world fucked over by them after they agree to that.

As I mention below, there’s a massive reckoning that will need to precede any second chance for conservatives. A price so steep that expecting it to be paid is functionally equivalent to believing Jesus will be reborn.

Why are you even humoring the idea of giving them a second chance?

They would never do the same to you. All you are doing is being weak and letting them do this all again in the future.

        Oh, don’t get me wrong.

My idea of a second chance involves what amounts to MAGAts choosing to voluntarily become slaves. It starts with reparations for african americans, then we keep going down the list of people who have been harmed by their idealogy (I don’t really care what the order is, eventually we’d reach everyone that isn’t republican).

In other words, it’s something that will never happen.

That’s the thing, it doesn’t matter who I picked first — expecting Republicans to take responsibility for everything their kind has done is an impossibility. These people will never pay reparations willingly. It doesn’t matter if they’re to black people, gay people, trans people; these people will always try to get out of it despite having terrorized them for generations.

Shit, just look at the Nazis. A Jew signed the Treaty of Versailles? Well it must be the Jews that are the reason why we’re suffering post WW1 — certainly not because of the consequences of our actions. These types of people are perpetually punching down.
