I think there is just an expectation of a certain level of political and historical literacy when you are having a conversation in a news or politics forum.

Seems like a great way to discourage the folks who need that knowledge from requesting it

You don’t hop into a league football match and then ask the other players on the bench what the rules are. Maybe read the wikipedia first, or just sit in the stand till you work the basics out.

Except this isn’t a football match. It’s real life, and the more people we have who are armed with knowledge to make wise decisions, the stronger our position. A spectator’s knowledge of football won’t influence the outcome of the game. You can’t exactly say the same about this.

Its just, its such an obtuse take. People are just asking you to put out a mediocre amount of effort to educate yourself, and your argument is basically “No, its the comments sections job to teach me political science”.

Bro it’s every government that ever existed before the current ones. He’s not referring to specific historical events. He’s referring to the entire history of humanity. It’s like asking “which people” when someone says “people have died.”
