Honestly, someone like JD Vance believes what it is convenient for him to believe, and right now it is convenient for him to believe the same sort of drivel that the base dumb enough to build their authoritarian regime around believes. I don’t think it was coincidence that soldiers were spouted biblical narratives preceding the latest Iran invasion, these are the sort of loyal reliable zealots whose lack of foundation in reality is actually an asset for them. They are the ones being promoted and getting the jobs at the root of their command chains.
People don’t care about reality, they just care about their ego.
Sort of a pull yourself by your own bootstraps problem, although there’s been more than enough opportunities. It’s just easier to blame society as a whole and do nothing except all the ways we’ve been told are the legitimate ways to protest - which don’t include prosecuting for treason and sedition.
