republicans will make a show of it but ultimately they won’t vote to remove him. They’re complicit and they’re absolutely wallowing in the fact that they can do whatever they want as long as they convince everyone it was his idea.

The party does this by picking someone else in the primary next election. Yes, they can choose to kick him out of the party, but all that does is remove any shred of influence they have over him. He’s doing this now because they already said they’re going to primary him in 2028 and he’s being a giant shit about it. Pennsylvania is purple though, and he flipped a seat when he got elected, so it’s likely he’ll get reelected or the seat may go back to being de jure Republican instead of defacto Republican.
He’s said he won’t switch to being an Independent like Manchin and Sinema did, but if he gets primaried and the challenger wins, I doubt he’ll stick to his guns and bow out of the election. Hell likely run indipendent and cause a spoiler effect.
