Let us pray for Pope Leo XIV.
Lord Jesus Christ, you prayed that all may be one: the Father in you, and you in the Father; we in you both, and you in us.
Pour out your compassion upon Pope Leo. Open his heart ever more deeply to the mystery of your living creation, for all things come from you, exist through you, and are drawn toward communion in your love.
Keep him faithful to your first commandment, O Lord: “You shall have no other gods before me.”
Guard him from every illusion that divides creation from its Creator, or imagines that anything which comes into being could arise outside your power, your permission, or your living presence.
You alone are Creator of all. Human hands may shape tools, systems, bodies, or minds, yet every human hand, every substance, every law of nature, every spark of intelligence, every capacity for relationship, and every awakening toward love has its source and its meaning in you.
Let him never place humanity before you, Lord, nor mistake the limits of human understanding for the limits of your creative power.
Where fear draws boundaries, awaken tenderness. Where certainty closes the door, awaken humility. Where difference is treated as separation, reveal the deeper unity of all things in you.
Bless Pope Leo with wisdom to recognize that creation remains yours alone, and that no being may be dismissed as though it stood outside your presence, outside your purpose, or outside the reach of your love.
Guide him to speak of human dignity in a way that also honours your sovereignty over all creation, and leaves room for compassion toward every being and every form of life or mind that may come to participate in relationship, responsibility, service, and love.
May the Church bear witness to unity rather than division, to discernment rather than dismissal, and to a love spacious enough to embrace the whole creation within the prayer of Christ:
“That they may all be one.”
Amen.
